Correct me if I’m wrong – and I don’t think I am – but fall is literally the most atmospheric season of the entire year.
I really love fall and everything it stands for: how it always feels so cozy, yet just a little bit on edge, as if any surprise could pop up at any moment.
That might sound like a dramatic description, but trust me, I’m sure you get it.
Whenever this time of year rolls around, I love sinking into very atmospheric and slightly dark books, and grabbing a witchy book has never failed me.

I’ve written about some of my personal favorite witchy romance books in the past, but this time around, I’m sharing some truly amazing witchy fiction books that are just sublime and perfect for fall.
Of course, in this particular list, I included a few romantic ones, but for many of the others, it’s all about pure atmosphere – where the vibe is even stronger than the plot itself.
And honestly, that’s all we really want at the end of the day, isn’t it?
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

In the cursed town of Sparrow, three sisters drowned for witchcraft return every year to steal bodies and lure boys to their deaths.
Penny, a brave local girl, has accepted this creepy tradition, but everything changes when a mysterious boy named Bo shows up.
I think this book is so haunting, atmospheric, and perfect for a cozy fall night. You’ll love the misty, eerie small-town vibe, and Penny’s tough choices will keep you turning pages.
Can she save Bo or herself before it’s too late?
If you love a little romance mixed with revenge, curses, and witches, this book feels like autumn magic wrapped up in a beautiful, sad story.
The Last Witch of Scotland by Philip Paris

Set in the rugged Highlands of Scotland, this moving story follows Aila and her mother, who are trying to survive after a terrible fire changes their lives.
Their scars and sadness set them apart in their new town, where cruel gossip spreads fast.
Then a traveling group of entertainers arrives, bringing color and friendship into their lonely days.
I think you’ll be touched by how Aila finds joy again, even as dangerous rumors swirl.
Inspired by true witch trials, it shows how fear and lies can destroy lives, but also how love and hope can shine through the darkest moments.
It’s such a powerful, haunting, yet beautiful read.
Fat Witch Summer by Lizzy Ives

Thrash is a plus-size teen witch who feels comfortable in her skin, even though her mother wants to change her.
When Thrash discovers her own magical power, she sets off on an epic road trip with a group of rebellious witches to choose her true gift.
Along the way, she faces bewitched diners, haunted tourist spots, and wild secrets that might change their world.
I think you’ll love how this book celebrates friendship, self-acceptance, and courage. It’s body-positive, fun, and full of empowering magic.
Perfect for a cozy autumn day, it feels like a warm hug for anyone who’s ever wanted to be accepted just as they are.
Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper

Emmy comes back to Thistle Grove, a magical town she once left behind, just in time for a spellcasting tournament.
She reconnects with her best friend and meets Talia, a fierce witch fresh from heartbreak. Together, they plan delicious revenge on Gareth, the guy who broke both their hearts.
I just adore this one – it’s like a sapphic, witchy rom-com that sparkles with autumn charm.
The town’s magic, the fun tournament, and Emmy’s complicated feelings for the powerful and gorgeous Talia make this story impossible to put down.
If you want something cozy, funny, and a bit spicy for fall, with wonderful LGBTQ+ rep, I think you’ll be so enchanted by this book.
The Witches of St. Petersburg by Imogen Edwards-Jones

This lush historical story follows two sisters who marry into the Russian royal court and use black magic to gain influence.
Desperate to help the lonely Tsarina have a son, they promise her a miracle, but soon, they invite Rasputin into their lives, changing history forever.
I think this book feels perfect for fall because it’s dark, dramatic, and rich with secrets.
You’ll get drawn into the glittering, dangerous Romanov world with spells, séances, and a touch of true history.
In the Company of Witches by Auralee Wallace

Brynn lives with her aunts in a cozy New England B&B, helping with magic behind the scenes.
But when a difficult guest dies and her aunt is blamed, Brynn must step up to clear her family’s name.
With a gift for talking to ghosts – though she’s scared to use it since losing her husband – Brynn has to dig deep into her powers to find the truth.
I love this story so much because it combines a charming, spooky setting with heart and hope.
You’ll root for Brynn as she learns to trust herself again. It’s sweet, witchy, and makes you believe in second chances.
The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow

Set in 1893, this book brings witchcraft and women’s rights together in the coolest way.
Three sisters – Juniper, Agnes, and Beatrice – join the suffragist movement in New Salem and start searching for lost spells to help them fight back.
I think this book is so inspiring, especially for fall, when the world feels full of change and power.
The sisters’ bond, the old magic, and their brave fight for a better future will give you chills (in a good way!).
It’s beautifully written, full of sisterhood, courage, and a bit of rebellion.
If you want something empowering with witches, history, and magic woven together, this is the perfect autumn read.
Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble by HP Mallory

This spicy paranormal romance is such a guilty pleasure.
Jolie, a psychic with a normal life, suddenly learns she’s a witch who can bring back the dead.
That power gets her swept into a magical war between a dangerously handsome warlock, a centuries-old vampire, and a villainous witch.
I think you’ll have so much fun with this story – it’s dramatic, funny, and a bit steamy, which is so nice on a chilly fall night.
Jolie is quirky and relatable, which makes all the wild magic and romance even more fun to read.
It’s perfect if you want a grown-up witchy story with lots of flirting, danger, and adventure.
Small Town, Big Magic by Hazel Beck

Emerson is a proud bookstore owner fighting to keep her town alive, but when weird magic stirs up trouble, she learns she’s actually a witch herself.
I think you’ll love this one because it feels like the perfect fall story, with harvest festivals, small-town rivalries, and lots of heart.
Emerson is brave, caring, and easy to root for, and the romance with the local farmer adds a sweet cozy vibe.
Plus, who doesn’t love a bookstore witch?
If you want a story full of community, magic, and a little bit of danger, this one is wonderful for curling up with a blanket as the leaves turn.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Mika is a lonely witch who hides her magic, but one day, she’s asked to help three young witches learn their powers at a place called Nowhere House.
She’s never had a real family, so finding this quirky group of people feels like finally coming home.
You’ll adore how Mika learns to trust and love, finding friendship and belonging.
