Yaho! My name is Preye, and I’m an anime-loving, coffee-hating, book-lover – As far as I can remember, I’ve had my head stuck in a book (to my consternation of my poor mother).
I am especially partial to the romance, fantasy, steampunk, and thriller genres, but I read pretty much everything and I love talking about the books I’ve read, want to read, plan to read, stopped reading, and might read sometime in the future.
The first full-length novel I read was Tell Me Your Dreams by Sydney Sheldon which I quickly followed up with The Forced Bride by Sara Craven and I loved both of them. Soon after that, I made my way through countless cover-less and name-less books because I was HOOKED.
Before this, I had read snippets from the Camp Rock and Dork Diaries (you never could find a complete book among my peers in those days) and if this doesn’t tell you a little about my haphazard reading habits, I don’t know what will.
I have the wildest imagination and I’m a crybaby through and through, and this blog is probably the closest I’ll get to having my personal Belle-esque life (sans my dad offering me up as a sacrifice to a living and breathing beast, ofcourse).
And when adulthood dawned on me and I had to choose a career path, I enrolled in a law degree, but halfway down the line, the pages started calling again and I started pursuing my actual dream – Developmental editing & beta reading.
At the moment, I’ve worked with 150+ authors on their creations and for a literary nerd like myself, there’s no greater joy than working with authors on their drafts behind the scenes. You can learn more about my beta reading services here:
What’s up with the name?
I don’t talk about it that often because it’s probably the least interesting thing about me – If you know me IRL, you know I have stories for daysssssss – but I am in my final year of a law degree.
I bought this domain a few years ago when I was nothing by a foundling in this profession (hence the “rookie” and “jurist” in the title).
But even though it’s now four years down the line and I’m certainly much wiser, knowledgeable, and prettier than I was then, I still feel like a rookie in many aspects of my life, so the name stays.
What can I find on this blog?
My end-goal with this blog is to have everything a reader could possibly want from a blog, so I deliver a smorgasbord of content across different genres and formats and there’s still lots of stuff in the oven.
There’s a podcast in the works, I offer beta reading and developmental editing services, and I plan to set up an online store soon. At the moment, here’s what you can find:
1. Book lists with recommendations from different genres.
2. Book reviews of everything I’ve been reading and loving.
3. Book news so that you can stay up-to-date with any happenings (including platform changes, latest book releases, author news, and much more).
4. Author interviews that will take you behind the scene, so you can see what inspired your favourite authors.
5. Creative writing tips that will help you tell the story that keeps you up all night.
6. Tips to make you live a fantastically, fulfilled literary life.
7. And my personal favorite are the award predictions: I keep up to date with the biggest short story, novella, novel, and translated fiction awards each year and I’ll try to review every book on their lists to predict the winner.
As I said, there’s a whole lot that’s still in the oven for this site and I’m honoured that you’ve decided to join me – Take a look around and drop me a message if you have the time. Thank you!
