I’m actually a very big mood reader, so whenever I put together a reading list, more times than not, I totally abandon it and end up reading something else.

But for this particular year, I’ve already pre-ordered some books I’m really looking forward to, so I decided to put together a proper fall reading list for once.

That said, I’m still a little unsure whether I’ll actually end up reading all these books, because fall and the beginning of winter 2025 are going to be very, very busy with school.

But if I do get around to them, I’ll make sure to drop reviews here on the blog.

If you’re like me, you probably make little reading lists here and there too.

My TBR is honestly a mile long, and I have no idea why I keep adding new books. It’s probably because there are just so many amazing new releases.

Just in case you didn’t know, I also compile new book release lists for different months of the year, so definitely check those out.

But this fall is really bringing some incredible books. We even have new releases from one of my favorite authors – R.F. Kuang. Yellowface absolutely wrecked me, and I don’t even know if I’m ready for her newest release, but I’m definitely going to give it a shot if time permits.

So, I don’t know if you’ve already put together your own fall reading list, but if you have, maybe you’ll find some inspiration in this post.

Bog Queen by Anna North

Bog Queen

Bog Queen tells the story of Agnes, a forensic anthropologist from America who comes across something totally unexpected – a perfectly preserved body that’s over two thousand years old buried deep in a bog in England.

But this isn’t just any discovery.

The deeper Agnes digs (both literally and emotionally), the more she feels strangely connected to this ancient woman from the Iron Age.

And the bog itself seems to have secrets of its own, almost like it’s alive with memories.

There’s tension with land developers, activists who want the land untouched, and the haunting feeling that the past isn’t done telling its story.

I just know this book is going to make me think about the earth and history in a whole new way.

It feels spooky and thoughtful, so it’s absolutely perfect for chilly autumn evenings.

The Formidable Miss Cassidy by Meihan Boey

The Formidable Miss Cassidy

I am so excited for this one because it sounds like pure fun with a sprinkle of magic.

Miss Leda Cassidy is a Scottish governess who thinks she’s just coming to Singapore to take care of some children but of course, nothing is that simple.

When she arrives, she finds out the family is being terrorized by a vampiric spirit and, like the true problem-solver she is, Miss Cassidy jumps into action.

But every time she solves a spooky problem, another one pops up.

I can already tell she’s going to be such a fun, clever heroine to follow.

And then there’s Mr. Kay, the handsome widower with twin daughters, who might end up being more than just a side character.

I love the idea of a little mystery, a little fantasy, and a touch of possible romance all rolled into one.

It feels like the kind of cozy, delightful story to curl up with on a rainy fall day.

Whatever Happened to Lori Lovely? by Sarah McCoy

Whatever Happened to Lori Lovely

Honestly, this book sounds like it’s going to pull at my heart and fill my mind with questions.

I love stories about old Hollywood mysteries, and this one feels like a perfect puzzle to slowly piece together.

Lori Lovely was a young star in the 60s, all beautiful and famous and then she suddenly left it all to become a nun. Why would someone give up a glittering life like that?

Her niece Lu wants to find out for her thesis, so she visits Lori – now Mother Abbess – in her quiet abbey.

For the first time in decades, Lori is ready to tell her story but only if Lu is truly willing to listen.

I have a feeling this book is going to be full of secrets, lost dreams, and maybe even some forgiveness.

It sounds gentle but gripping – just the kind of thoughtful read I love when the weather turns cool and crisp.

Girl Dinner by Olivie Blake

Girl Dinner

I can already tell that this one is going to be so dark and juicy and weirdly irresistible.

Imagine an exclusive sorority full of perfect, beautiful girls but underneath their flawless appearance, there’s something very strange – and very dangerous – happening.

Nina, a sophomore, just wants to fit in and be protected. And Sloane, a tired new mom and professor, envies these girls for how they seem to have it all together.

But as they both get drawn deeper into the secrets of The House, they realize these girls are hiding some really twisted, bloody rituals behind their shiny smiles.

Honestly, this gives me the shivers and the excitement all at once.

I can’t wait to see how far these women will go for power and beauty.

It feels like the perfect unsettling, thrilling book to read late at night when the wind is blowing outside.

The Devil Is a Southpaw by Brandon Hobson

The Devil Is a Southpaw by

I always enjoy books that deal with old friendships and complicated pasts, and The Devil Is a Southpaw seems like it’s going to break my heart in the best way.

It’s about Milton and Matthew, two boys who were stuck in a rough juvenile detention center years ago.

Matthew escaped and became a famous artist and Milton stayed behind, full of jealousy, regret, and memories.

Now, Milton’s telling the story of their youth – of the terrible things they went through, the strange dreams they shared, and the choices that shaped their lives.

It sounds deep and thoughtful, maybe even painful, but so worth reading.

I think this will make me think about forgiveness and how the past can hold onto us for so long. It’s a quiet, serious fall read for sure.

We Love You, Bunny by Mona Awad

We Love You bunny

If you’ve read Bunny before (and I have!), you know how strange that world was and this is like stepping back into that creepy, funny, twisted world all over again.

This time, Samantha is kidnapped by her old classmates – the Bunnies – and they want to tell their side of the story.

What really happened in their creepy little writing group? What monsters did they create?

It’s part fairy tale, part horror, part dark academia, and I just know it’s going to be a completely bonkers ride.

I’m so looking forward to this one because I love stories that don’t play by the rules and surprise you at every turn.

Definitely saving this for a gray fall day when I want something strange and thrilling.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea by Lauren Blakely

It Seemed Like a Good Idea

I love small-town romance books, especially the ones with a grumpy-sunshine vibe and this one has it all.

Our heroine runs a lavender farm, and her life gets turned upside down when a broody, tattooed bodyguard shows up, who also happens to be the guy she had a one-night stand with and never heard from again.

And now he’s staying at her cottage, with only one bed, of course.

I can already feel the tension, the laughs, the frustration, and the inevitable falling-in-love.

This is going to be the perfect warm, happy book to read when I want something light and full of fun feels this fall. I can’t wait!

It’s Me They Follow by Jeannine Cook

Its Me They Follow

I adore stories about bookshops, and this one has a bookseller who secretly helps people find love through the books she recommends.

But she’s not so lucky in love herself, especially since the person she truly wants, her first customer ME, walked away with her favorite book and her heart.

Now, the magic of her bookshop might be her only hope of getting her own happily ever after.

Doesn’t this sound like the sweetest and most comforting story?

I love the idea of books bringing soulmates together and maybe even helping the matchmaker find her own match.

Vianne by Joanne Harris

Vianne by Joanne Harris

I am so excited for this one because I’ve always wanted to know more about Vianne’s life before her chocolate shop.

Vianne takes us back to when she was young and just starting her journey in Marseille.

She finds a job in a little bistro, learns to cook under a funny old chef, and – most importantly – discovers the wonder and magic of chocolate for the first time.

But things aren’t all sweet and simple. There’s danger, secrets, and a conspiracy that could ruin everything she’s working for.

I love that this book will show how Vianne became the magical woman we know from Chocolat.

The Mysterious Case of the Missing Crime Writer by Ragnar Jónasson

The Mysterious Case of the Missing Crime

I love a good mystery, especially when it feels cozy and clever and this one sounds like such a page-turner.

A famous crime writer disappears one cold winter night, and no one knows where she’s gone.

It’s up to a young detective named Helgi to solve the mystery before the press gets hold of it.

As he starts digging, he finds that everyone close to her – her publisher, accountant, even a retired judge – seems to have secrets.

I’m already wondering what happened to her and if she was living a stranger life than anyone guessed.

This is definitely going to be my go-to mystery read when the nights get longer and darker.

I’m so curious to know what books you plan to read this fall! Like I said earlier, I’ll probably end up reading even more than what’s on my list (mood reader problems, right?).

This year, I also made a real commitment to be better about posting book reviews, which I’ve actually been doing quite faithfully.

I’ll make sure to keep updating the blog about my reading journey and also share little bits about what I’ve been up to – whether it’s studying, reading, or just life in general.
