Spring feels like the perfect time to start something new, so I’ve created a reading challenge to match the season.

Just like the winter reading challenge, I’ve picked 3 books for each month, with themes that connect to the energy of spring.

For March, I wanted to focus on Renewal and Rebirth, because it’s all about fresh starts and the promise of something new.

In April, it’s all about Growth and Transformation, which feels like a great way to welcome the season of change.

And for May, I’m leaning into Abundance and Blooming to celebrate the fullness that spring brings.

These books are ones I’ve loved or can’t wait to read, and I thought the themes would make them extra meaningful for this time of year.

I hope they bring something special to your spring, too!

March: Renewal and Rebirth

1. For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts by Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodríguez

For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and

This book is a powerful guide for women of color to find strength and empowerment.

It’s all about embracing your true self and pushing past challenges.

For me, it feels like a fresh start – just what you need for spring, a season of renewal.

It’s perfect for anyone looking to grow and reclaim their voice.

2. Pew by Catherine Lacey

Pew

A mysterious figure named Pew arrives in a small town, and everyone sees something different in them.

The book digs into how we judge others and the secrets we hold.

It’s thought-provoking, and I love how it really makes you think about self-discovery, which feels like the perfect theme for a spring challenge on renewal.

3. Trace: Memory, History, Race, and the American Landscape by Lauret Savoy

Trace 1

In this book, Lauret Savoy takes us on a journey through the land and its history, showing how the past shapes who we are today.

It’s a beautiful way to reflect on the world around us and understand our roots.

I think it’s a great choice for spring because it feels like a renewal of connection to the land and our history.

April: Growth and Transformation

1. Relentless: My Life in Hockey and the Power of Perseverance by Bryan Berard

Relentless

Bryan Berard’s story is all about growth and transformation through perseverance.

After a life-changing eye injury, he’s told his career is over, but his mom’s words, push him to keep going.

Despite more setbacks, like injuries and financial betrayal, he doesn’t give up on his love for hockey

This book shows how true growth often comes from facing challenges head-on, and I really appreciate how it highlights the power of never giving up.

2. Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson

Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit

Jeanette’s journey of self-discovery is a beautiful example of transformation.

Growing up in a strict religious home, she falls in love with a woman, which leads her to leave everything behind – her family, faith, and old life.

The theme of growth here is powerful, as Jeanette embraces who she truly is, even when it means breaking away from everything she’s known.

I love how this book shows how our truest selves can bloom when we make brave choices.

3. The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh

The Language of Flowers

Victoria’s story is about the slow, healing process of learning to trust and love again.

After a rough childhood in foster care, she communicates through flowers, each representing a piece of her journey.

As she helps others with flowers, she begins to open her heart to healing and change.

The theme of growth is so clear in this book – Victoria transforms from someone who pushes others away to someone who dares to love again.

It’s a beautiful reminder that transformation is possible, even after the hardest experiences.

May: Abundance and Blooming

1. Water, Wood & Wild Things by Hannah Kirshner

Water Wood

This book takes you to a quiet Japanese mountain village, where Kirshner learns from local artisans who keep ancient traditions alive.

From saké brewing to charcoal making, it’s all about the patience and craft that lead to growth.

This one shows us that abundance isn’t just about what we harvest – it’s about the people and practices that keep traditions alive.

I think you’ll really feel inspired by this one.

2. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

The Starless Sea

This is a magical journey about a grad student, Zachary, who finds a mysterious book that leads him to a hidden world of libraries, secret places, and love stories.

Along with his new friends, he discovers his own role in this strange, beautiful world.

It’s about how stories grow and shape us.

I love how it shows how powerful stories can be in our lives.

3. Bright Wings by Billy Collins

Bright Young Women

This book celebrates birds through poems and gorgeous illustrations.

Each bird is paired with a poem that talks about freedom, beauty, and growth.

It’s a peaceful, reflective collection that made me feel connected to nature.
