Autumn is truly the best time to read the spookiest books on your reading list.
I love fall because it’s always so atmospheric, a little edgy, and has that perfect cozy, wrap-myself-in-a-blanket feeling and that’s exactly the kind of books I like to read during this season.
If you’ve been thinking of adding some spooky reads to your list this autumn, then keep reading.
As I’ve always said, I love atmospheric books with a heavy, moody vibe during fall, and these books are exactly that.

I used to stay away from anything scary — truly, I wouldn’t even read thrillers in the past — but over the past couple of years, I’ve picked up a few, and they’ve been so interesting.
The books on this list are ones I have read and vetted, and I promise they are amazing.
You should absolutely check them out; they’re just spooky enough for fall, and you’ll have so much fun getting into them.
Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison

Rory heads home to help her pregnant twin, but bad memories still linger there.
One night, she hits a huge animal with her car, then gets attacked and something changes inside her.
She’s stronger, hates silver, and feels drawn to the moon. It’s like the beast is part of her now.
Is she a danger to the people she loves, or is she finally embracing her real, wild self?
This story is scary but kind of funny too, mixing love, rage, and personal healing in a way that feels raw and true.
I think it shows how facing your inner monster can be healing, especially in the spooky fall.
If you like werewolves with a dash of humor, you’ll really love this one.
In Charm’s Way by Lana Harper

Delilah, a witch, has lost her sharp mind after a magic accident.
She tries a risky spell to fix it, but now she’s a magnet for spooky creatures.
When a rogue succubus comes after her, a mysterious hunter named Catriona shows up to help. Catriona is half-fae, dangerous, and strangely charming.
Together, they face monsters while fighting off a sizzling attraction that could change Delilah’s whole world.
It has that sweet-spooky feeling I crave in autumn and shows how finding strength (and maybe love) can happen in the darkest moments.
Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match by Sally Thorne

Angelika Frankenstein is smart, pretty, and, well, a bit odd.
She worries she’ll never find her perfect love, so she decides to make one herself—literally.
When her brother Victor reanimates a man, Angelika hopes this gentleman (who she calls Will) will love her.
But Will can’t remember anything and only wants to discover who he really is.
Angelika helps him find answers, but she wonders if she should have let fate choose love instead of forcing it.
This book is full of fall chills, carriages, and old-timey charm, perfect for those cozy nights. Honestly, I think Angelika’s boldness makes her a super fun heroine.
The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas

Beatriz thinks she’s found safety after marrying Don Rodolfo, whose big estate promises comfort.
But once she arrives, strange visions, creepy noises, and a sense of being watched turn her dream into a nightmare.
Everyone seems to brush off her fears, but Beatriz knows the hacienda is hiding something truly evil.
Desperate, she turns to a young priest, Andrés, who has secret magic of his own, to help her fight the darkness. Their forbidden bond adds even more tension.
I think this is the perfect spooky, gothic book for fall, with that old haunted-house feeling I love.
It’s scary in a slow, delicious way and makes you wonder if bravery, love, and hope can survive a place determined to destroy them.
The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson

Jake spends the summer with his uncle Calvin, who’s obsessed with ghosts.
They start a little club with some new kids in town, looking for haunted places and spooky stories.
At first, it’s silly fun, but the deeper they dig, the more real—and heartbreaking—it all feels.
This book is like a warm blanket on a chilly fall night, full of friendship, memories, and a few good scares.
If you like stories with a little sweetness, a little sadness, and a lot of spooky small-town charm, this one is a perfect autumn pick that will stay in your heart.
A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

Constanta was saved from death by a mysterious vampire and became his bride.
At first, his dark love felt like everything she dreamed of, but soon she saw his cruelty.
As he brought other lovers into their strange family, Constanta realized the truth about him was far scarier than death.
With her heart breaking, she must decide whether to stay loyal or fight for freedom, even if it means risking everything.
This book is beautifully haunting, almost like a gothic fairy tale wrapped in a love letter. It’s perfect for fall, full of night, shadows, and heartbreak.
If you enjoy dark romance with a bite of horror, this one will totally sweep you away into its eerie world.
The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglass

Jake can see ghosts—like, all the time.
Most are stuck on repeat, but one angry ghost, Sawyer, is very different.
Sawyer shot six people before ending his own life and now wants to pull Jake into his twisted afterlife plan.
Suddenly, high school feels like a nightmare Jake might not survive.
This story is scary and tense, but it also shows what it’s like to feel different and try to stay strong.
I think it’s a perfect fall book if you love big chills, brave heroes, and a story that hits your heart as well as your nerves.
Sign Here by Claudia Lux

Peyote Trip works in Hell, making shady deals to steal souls.
He’s close to a big promotion—just one more member of the Harrison family needs to sign away their soul.
When the family goes to their lake house, Pey jumps at the chance, but things get complicated fast.
Secrets, lies, and a mysterious girl named Ruth turn everything upside down.
This book is funny in a dark way but also kind of sweet, which I really loved.
If you want a fall read that’s a bit twisted, a bit heartfelt, and definitely spooky, this one is such a treat.
Don’t Tell a Soul by Kirsten Miller

Bram runs away to a creepy town with a house full of secrets.
They call the dead girls who vanish there the Dead Girls, and people warn her to stay away.
But she has nowhere else to go. Soon, strange things start happening—ghostly whispers, cold spots, and a feeling she’s never alone.
The town is hiding more than just rumors, and Bram might not survive long enough to figure it out.
I think this book is exactly the right amount of scary for fall, like a haunted house come to life.
It’s a story about finding courage in a place that wants you to be afraid, and I love how it balances chills with mystery.
My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix

Abby and Gretchen have been besties forever, but after a creepy night swimming, Gretchen starts acting weird. Really weird.
Abby thinks something evil has taken over her friend and is determined to save her, even if it means facing a demon.
This book captures what friendship really means, even when everything goes horribly wrong. Plus, all the ‘80s vibes make it extra fun.
You’ll adore this one for fall if you love spooky stories with loyal friends, laughs, and a few gross-out moments.
