This is one of the new steamy books released in 2025, and I’ve been gradually making my way through a lot of them.
I like books that have some meat to them, so while I enjoyed this one, it didn’t really have that depth. The plot was simply about them falling in love, so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped.
That’s not to say it’s bad – I just feel like it’s very light. But if you want something light, steamy, and interesting that will keep you hooked, then you should definitely read this. It takes place in a small town, and all the characters were such a hoot.
Mac is such a cutie pie, and his dilemma in the book is fairly simple – he just wants someone to treat him normally, even though he’s a big rockstar. And that’s exactly what Kayla does. He really appreciates it, and that’s what makes him start letting down his guard.
They see each other in ways that others don’t, and that’s really what cements their love. Honestly, that’s as valid a reason as any to fall in love.
She actually gets his creative juices flowing and becomes his muse in no time. As I said, the book is simply about them falling in love.
It has the most gorgeous cover, but one thing that dimmed my enjoyment a bit was the overly simplistic prose. I’m all for accessibility, but at the same time, there’s no need to write at a second-grade level for a contemporary romance book.
Since this is just one book in a series, it does a good job of introducing the other side characters and hinting at their stories. I was very interested in what happens to all of them, so I may or may not read the rest of the books in the series.
Finally, in all of these small-town books, I love it when there’s a group of women who make it their duty to meddle in everyone’s lives.
I think I’d be very annoyed and very unamused if it happened to me in real life, but when it happens to the characters, it’s such a delight. Those women were determined to keep them on their feet, and I loved it.
So, this is a decent contemporary rockstar romance you should read, but don’t go into it expecting much of the rockstar lifestyle.
It takes place in a small town, and the most you get is a musician trying to make new music. Again, it’s very light, so there’s no deep dive into any of those worlds, but it’s still pretty good.
