Whenever autumn comes around, even though we don’t actually experience autumn in my country, I make it a point to read every single paranormal romance novel that I have had on my TBR, and The Fake Mate has literally been on my list for a long time.
This is actually a fake relationship workplace romance book, and when I tell you that this was the sweetest, spiciest, and most romantic book I have read in ages, I’m not kidding and I know I tend to exaggerate.
So this is the story: our female lead, Mackenzie, has been hounded by her grandmother to get into a relationship for a long time, while our male lead’s job is at risk simply because he’s about to be outed as an alpha.
There’s a whole drama about their designations, and you have to read the book to find out, but Noah doesn’t want that.
So the both of them decide to get into a fake relationship to save their purposes, and of course, while they are fake dating, they realize that they might actually have a thing for each other – very reluctantly, and also because their hormones are all over the place.

And of course, you know what happens when hormones are all over the place, they end up falling in love with each other.
So first of all, the spice in this book is out of this world. I don’t personally bookmark spicy chapters, and I have never actually written a post about the spicy chapters in a book.
But I do want to start a segment on the blog where I essentially analyze the spicy scenes in every book and then just share what I feel about them – just to encourage engagement and hear what other people think as well.
So let me know if that is something that you might be interested in reading.
Back to the topic: the spice in this book was something else. I love it when you can feel the raw heat from the characters, when their compatibility is off the charts, and it genuinely feels like they’re about to set on fire for each other.
When you read this book, you’ll understand why the connection between the both of them was literally predestined. I was genuinely taken unawares by how spicy this book ended up being, and I actually think it was because of the cover.
Now, I’ve read a lot of monster romance novels, but those are actually monster romances, so I already expect a certain level of steaminess. But in this book – even though it’s paranormal and they are werewolves – I just didn’t think it was going to be this much.
You actually need to read it to totally understand what I’m talking about, but there’s this whole drama about scenting which was literally the most swoon-worthy thing ever. And now I sort of want to see this in every other werewolf romance novel that I read.

I should also mention that this book had two very opposite characters, so it was just fun seeing them clash, resolve conflicts, and view things from completely different angles.
The author handled it all with the right amount of sensitivity, so while we were always neck-deep in romantic moments, it never felt like other side plots were being ignored, which I absolutely appreciated.
School is literally taking all of my time right now, so it took me more than a week to read this book. But when I tell you that I was literally using every free moment I had to continue reading, I mean it.
I was just in love with the both of them for a whole week because they complemented each other in so many different ways.
I read the acknowledgments at the back of the book, and it’s very hard to believe that this is only the author’s second book.
I honestly would have thought it was the work of a more seasoned author, and that just speaks to the quality.
I love that even now, with all the AI conversations happening and so many profiteers taking shortcuts – essentially flooding the market with low-quality books every month – we still have new authors like this one who are putting in the work. The difference is very clear.
So, just in case I haven’t made it clear: this book was really romantic and sweet, and I loved every part of it.
I definitely want to check out everything else this author has written or will write in the future.
If you’ve read this one, let me know what you loved about it.
And if you have any other recommendations that are just as spicy, sweet, and super romantic as this one, I’d love to hear them!
