Ever since I can remember, I’ve dreamed of having my very own reading nook – a cozy corner where I can just chill and lose myself in a good book.

It’s been one of those things I’ve kept in mind while moving around between my rented school apartment and my family home.

But now that I’ve finished school (woohoo!), I’m finally thinking about my own place and trust me, a reading nook is a must!

For years, I’ve been curating ideas for this dream nook of mine, collecting all the little things I want in it.

Soft cushions, fairy lights, maybe even a cute little plant here and there.

So if you’re also dreaming of creating a cozy reading spot, these 25 ideas are straight from my wishlist to yours! Let’s make it happen!

1. Soft, Squishy Chair or Beanbag

You need a seat so comfy it hugs you back. Look for one that’s plush and big enough to curl up in – something that feels like a cloud. Maybe a beanbag with a cute cover or a squishy armchair with a footrest. Think warm hugs in furniture form.

2. A Throw Blanket (or Two)

Find the softest blanket ever, maybe one with a fun texture like chunky knit or fleece. Bonus points if it’s big enough to cocoon yourself completely. Choose colors that make you feel happy and calm – soft blues, creamy whites, or something with little stars!

3. Fairy Lights or String Lights

These will instantly make your nook feel magical. Wrap them around your shelves or hang them overhead. Warm white ones are great for a cozy vibe, but you can go colorful if you want a playful feel.

4. A Side Table (Tiny, but Mighty)

You’ll need a little table for your tea, snacks, or a candle. Go for something small and charming, like a round wooden one or something painted in a fun pastel color. Bonus: one with a tiny drawer for bookmarks!

5. Bookshelves or Floating Shelves

What’s a reading nook without your favorite books within arm’s reach? Arrange them by color, size, or vibe – whatever makes you smile when you look at them. Add a cute bookend or two for style points!

6. A Lamp with a Warm Glow

Lighting is everything. Get a lamp that’s soft but bright enough to read without squinting. A vintage-style one with a soft gold base or a modern one with an adjustable arm could be perfect.

7. Cushions Galore

Pile on the cushions! Go for a mix of textures – fluffy, velvet, or even ones with quirky patterns like cats, books, or plants. The more, the merrier, so you can rearrange them as you lounge.

8. A Little Plant or Two

Add a touch of life to your space with a tiny pothos, a cheerful succulent, or a low-maintenance snake plant. Put it in an adorable pot (like one shaped like a fox or a teacup) for some extra charm.

9. A Candle or Diffuser

Pick a candle that smells like happiness – maybe vanilla, fresh linen, or sandalwood. If candles aren’t your thing, a little essential oil diffuser will give you the same cozy vibes without the flame.

10. A Mug Warmer (Trust Me!)

Nothing’s worse than lukewarm tea halfway through a chapter. A mug warmer keeps your drink at the perfect sipping temperature, so you can focus on your book without worrying about cold coffee.

11. An Oversized Floor Pillow

For those times when you want to stretch out or sit on the floor, a big, squishy floor pillow is perfect. Look for something textured, like tufted cotton or velvet, in a color that makes your heart happy.

12. A Basket for Blankets

Keep your extra blankets neatly tucked away but still within reach. A cute woven basket, maybe with tassels or a boho vibe, adds style and keeps things tidy.

13. A Cozy Rug

A soft rug under your feet can make the whole space feel extra warm and inviting. Go for something plush and fuzzy, or a colorful pattern that adds character to your nook.

14. A Bookmark Collection

Have a little dish or jar to display your bookmarks. Whether they’re leather, magnetic, or handmade with tassels, they’ll add personality and make picking one out part of the ritual.

15. A Snack Jar

Because reading snacks are essential! Get a cute jar or tin to keep your favorite treats handy – maybe some chocolates, gummies, or nuts. Decorate it with stickers or keep it plain and chic.

16. A Personalized Sign or Quote Art

Hang a small sign with your favorite literary quote or something like, “This is my happy place.” It’s like a little reminder that this nook is all yours.

17. A Mini Book Stand

Perfect for cookbooks, sketchbooks, or hands-free reading. A small, foldable stand can hold your book while you sip tea or jot down notes. Look for a wooden or metal one for a cute touch.

18. A Sound Machine or Playlist

Set the mood with soft sounds. A tiny sound machine can play rain, ocean waves, or birdsong, or you can create a calming reading playlist with instrumental music.

19. A Tiny Clock

A small, quiet clock can help you keep track of time (without looking at your phone). Find one with a vintage feel or a quirky modern design to match your nook’s style.

20. A Journal and Pen

A cute, lightweight basket to hold your current reads. It’s like a little VIP section for the books you’re most excited about. Bonus if it’s woven or has a fabric liner for a cozy touch.

22. A Tiny Globe or Map

A small wastebasket or recycling bin to toss tea bags, snack wrappers, or bits of paper keeps your nook looking fresh and clutter-free. Choose one that’s sleek or matches your aesthetic.

25. A Comfy Ottoman or Pouf

For stretching out your legs or as a makeshift table, an ottoman or pouf is a versatile and cozy addition. Look for one with storage inside if you want extra functionality!

26. Seasonal Decor

Swap in little touches that match the season! A pumpkin for fall, a tiny vase of flowers for spring, or a little snow globe in winter. It keeps your nook feeling fresh and exciting all year round.
