Valentine’s Day is easily my favorite day of the entire year because it’s a day all about love.

And when I talk about love, I don’t mean just romantic love—I also mean the love we share with our family members, our friends, our coworkers, and everyone who matters to us.

As I always say here on the blog, building a strong reading habit in children is so important.

So if you’ve been thinking about expanding your little reader’s book list to include more Valentine’s-themed stories—or books that talk about love in meaningful, age-appropriate ways—these are the books you absolutely want to add to their reading list.

How to Be Romance with Bluey and Bingo by Penguin Young Readers Licenses

How to be Romance

Oh, we just loved this book!

If your family is anything like ours, and you’re a Bluey fan, this story is an absolute treat.

It’s a lift-the-flap adventure where Bluey and Bingo try to make something super special for Mum and Dad.

The little Heeler pups getting creative is just too cute, and the flaps make it so interactive that kids can’t stop giggling.

The colors and illustrations are bright and cheerful, and the whole story is full of playful love.

Honestly, it left everyone smiling in our house. I think it’s perfect for storytime because it’s fun, sweet, and really celebrates helping and caring for the people you love.

Little Owl’s Love by Divya Srinivasan

Little Owls Love

Little Owl is back, and this time he’s exploring what love means in his quiet, nighttime forest.

I just adore the way this book shows love for nature, friends, and all the little joys around us.

Little Owl glides under the stars, watches fireflies twinkle, listens to the crickets sing, and thinks about the friends he loves most.

It’s gentle, lyrical, and heartfelt in the simplest way that really reaches a child’s heart.

Reading it felt like a soft hug, and I loved seeing the world through Little Owl’s eyes.

This is a story that encourages kids to notice and appreciate love all around them, even in the tiniest things.

Sprinkle Your Sparkles: Show Your Love and Kindness by Kristin Tulsian

Sprinkle Your Sparkles

This book is just magical! I loved the idea that everyone has their own sparkles inside them, and they shine brightest when we do kind things for others.

The illustrations are beautiful, and the text makes it super easy for kids to understand how their actions can spread love and happiness.

I kept thinking about how powerful it is for little ones to feel that they can make someone’s day better just by being thoughtful.

It’s sweet, uplifting, and makes you want to go out and sprinkle kindness everywhere.

Honestly, it’s one of those books that leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside!

The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond

The Day It Rained Hearts by

I loved this book so much!

One day, it literally rains hearts, and Cornelia Augusta catches them all.

She realizes each heart is perfect for making valentines for her friends, and she carefully decides who should get each one.

It’s creative, sweet, and it really encourages kids to think about giving and showing love in personal ways.

The illustrations are charming and playful, just like the story itself.

It reminded me of how fun Valentine’s Day crafts can be, and I think it’s perfect for pairing with little hands-on projects. Every page is full of heartwarming ideas and pure joy.

How My Family Says I Love You by Yvonne Sewankambo

How My Family Says I Love

This book is just so tender and full of love! It shows that saying “I love you” doesn’t always need words.

For example, my favorite parts are the little gestures – like a sister braiding hair, racing each other to the door, or a dog wagging its tail.

Every page is full of different ways families show love, from stories, hugs, meals, to simple everyday care.

I loved reading it because it reminded me that love is everywhere in family life, even in the smallest moments.

It’s warm, relatable, and so gentle, and it really makes you appreciate all the ways people show they care.

ABCs of Love by Patricia Hegarty

ABCs of Love

This is such a sweet little book. It teaches love in the simplest way, using the ABCs.

I loved learning that A is for always, B is for bear hug, C is for cherish, and D is for devoted.

The words are easy for little ones to understand, and the illustrations make everything feel bright and happy.

I really appreciate how it mixes learning with love, and it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day or any day you want to talk about caring and kindness.

It also makes me want to read the whole series, like ABCs of Kindness or 123s of Thankfulness, because it’s just so heartwarming and fun.

The Hug by Eoin McLaughlin

The Hug scaled

Oh, this book is just the sweetest!

Hedgehog and Tortoise are both feeling sad and really need a hug, but everyone they meet turns them away.

It’s clever and funny, but also really heartwarming because it shows that sometimes, the perfect hug comes from someone just right for you.

I loved how the story makes you feel like you’re wrapped up in a real hug while reading.

The illustrations are soft and lovely, and every page brings a smile.

Honestly, my face lit up reading this, and I can imagine kids feeling all warm and comforted, especially on Valentine’s Day. It’s the kind of story that sticks with you!

Some had me giggling, some made me go “aww,” and honestly, I just loved how sweet and simple they were.

It reminded me how magical it is to see kids learn about love, friendship, and kindness in such fun ways.

Honestly, my heart felt all warm and fuzzy after reading them, and I just know these books will bring that same joy to your little ones too!
