This one is actually going to be a very quick review because I no longer have time to type – my battery is literally on 10%, so let’s get into it immediately.

This is the second book in a fantasy romance series (Fae Overlords) about faes falling in love with human beings, and you know I eat that up every time. I’m living for monster romance novels, at least in this phase of my life, and that’s basically all I’ve been reading.

Our male lead, Lucas, has essentially been ordered by the fae King (his father) to marry a human and hopefully breed offspring that will continue their legacy, since they’ve been cursed.

The thing is, some time ago, they invaded Earth and literally took over and of course, as with every invasion, it was very bloody. As a matter of fact, it was his people who raided her hometown and she struggled with this a bit in the book.

Anyway, he meets our female lead, Yvette, and they fall for each other, but the dilemma is that she’s scared about being with him because it almost feels like a betrayal of her beliefs. She thinks the way he went about the conquest was incredibly violent.

In turn, he feels a little guilty, but not guilty enough to regret the expedition, because that’s exactly what he was assigned to do. Still, they make it work, and I felt that was lovely. This is always a dilemma in any book about the conqueror falling in love with the conquered, and I feel like it’s a trope I’ve seen more of in historical romances, especially ones set in the time of the Norman Conquest.

And, now that I think about it, I think I’ve actually read another book with the conquered-conqueror trope and I believe I even left a review of it on the blog, so check it out. I’m going to add that link when I edit this post, so definitely look for my thoughts on that particular book. I loved that one, and I really don’t know why it didn’t even come to mind while I was reading. Anyway, on to the review.

This is actually a novella, so it moves super fast – we’re never in one place for too long, and I loved that. I don’t think we need to linger on things too much, and when authors add conflict just for the sake of it, readers can usually tell.

So for authors who are bold enough to simply move the story forward and then end it when the drama naturally concludes, I applaud you – that’s literally how it should be.

Our male lead, who is a prince, is actually a very kind and nice person (apart from his actions of nearly destroying her town). Throughout the book, we see how he’s not as vicious or bloodthirsty as the rest of his relatives.

I don’t know why that comparison was being made, because at the end of the day, he did kill lots of people in her town, and she hated him for it and was terrified of him, but also just as attracted, of course.

This is actually a very spicy book, though not as spicy as some of the others I’ve read. I’d put the steam level at about a three out of five.

All in all, I loved this book and will definitely be rereading it. I loved the side characters that were mentioned and want to check out all of their stories too.

This author is very talented, let me tell you. I don’t think I even spent an hour reading this book. I was flipping through the pages like I was being paid to do it. It was the most amazing experience.

Check out this book if you want a fast, sweet monster romance novel where the fae lead actually has a good rep for once.

And let me know what you think about it in the comments. If you have any romantasy book that has tickled your fancy recently and you’d love to share with everyone, please drop a comment as well.
