I am a sucker for a book where the male and female leads meet in a particular way, so let me just say right now that this book had my heart from the very beginning.

But I was a little skeptical about the way their romance would progress, especially since we start off dealing with a very heavy issue: the death of her parents.

In fact, she’s called back to the town to take care of the house and deal with what needs to be done. Even though we know she has been floating and moving through life for a long time, and we also know this is a romance novel, so they are definitely going to work it out, I was still a little unsure because I didn’t know how they would transition from the pain of loss to the joy of romance.

But it did happen, and since this is essentially a small-town romance novella, the romance moves quickly from there.

Soon enough, they get their happily ever after without any major roadblocks.

In fact, if I were to be really pedantic about it, I would say that the only major conflict in the book was her personal loss, which she was still dealing with, and it sort of went away in the second half of the book.

As I said, they do meet in a very unique way, and he is absolutely smitten with her from the very first moment. She, too, has feelings for him, and it continues that way throughout the book, which I wasn’t sure how to feel about.

Aside from her losing her parents and not knowing what to do next in her life, it felt like there wasn’t really anything to hold onto or keep us engaged while watching them fall in love.

That is not to say I am complaining about the romance in the book because the male lead is the best flirter I have ever seen in a romance book, and I actually loved that. But that’s just it—the romance was the only thing in the book.

Now, some might argue that being a novella means there’s not really time to explore other side plots or supporting storylines. To that, I have many arguments, but I’ll keep it to one.

The thing is, a short novella like this doesn’t need extended side plots to buffer the romance, but there has to be something that keeps the reader interested while they read.

For example, in Curves and Cowboys, it was the fact that our FL needed to go back home by the end of the day.

I bring this up because it would have been a great way to incorporate a subplot into this book since it is a small-town romance.

As with many small-town romances, our female lead moved away a long time ago and is struggling with knowing what to do next in her life.

It was a little annoying that this wasn’t explored in any depth at all. But, since it’s a novella, I’m very forgiving of this issue, and it didn’t really hamper my enjoyment of the book since I could definitely see the potential in it.

Our female lead was actually very interesting to read about on her own. Many times in the book, she had to recalibrate and think about how she matched his energy because he was very forthright about his intentions toward her. This is something I will probably never forget.

This author’s works are usually much more wholesome than spicy, so don’t expect anything extra steamy or any raunchy scenes because that isn’t her style.

As I’ve said earlier, this book deals with the loss of two parents, but it doesn’t happen on the page; rather, we know it happened sometime before the story starts.

You definitely want to take note of it, especially if it’s one of your triggers. Also, it ends with a pregnancy, which isn’t a favorite element of mine, but you should be aware of it as well.

I’d recommend this book to anyone who wants a wholesome, plus-size romance about starting over and instant attraction between two leads who do their best to get their happily ever after.
