The Cruel Saint is the second book in the Saint series, chronicling the tempestuous tale of Elena and Lucian. The story opens with Dante, Elena’s malevolent nemesis and bodyguard, subjecting her to a degrading encounter before ruthlessly executing the young man she loves.

The abuse endures for years, until Elena seizes an opportunity to escape to the prestigious Monarch Academy, where Syndicate members receive specialized training.

Despite being promised to Dante with her father’s approval, Elena is determined to learn the skills necessary to protect herself and achieve her independence, no matter the cost.

However, her hopes of liberation are swiftly dashed when her pursuers track her down within the Academy’s corridors. Elena’s plea for a savior is answered by Lucian, but his assistance comes with a steep price – the possession of her body, soul, and heart.

With an arranged marriage looming, Lucian, a commanding figure among Syndicate members, leaves no room for defiance, even from her own father.

The protagonists in this story were particularly fascinating to me. Despite leading a sheltered life, Elena refused to be a pushover, always standing up to Lucian whenever he attempted to undermine her.

What I found most captivating about the story was how calculated Lucian was in his feelings for her and how well he understood her past. He even went so far as to eliminate the source of her fears, making it clear that he was the perfect match for the future Elena needs.
