While I was putting together this list, I literally had to pause and take a deep breath.

Because how on Sappho’s own Earth do we have so many beautiful lesbian romance books?

I mean, every single book on this list is different from the others in so many ways.

What connects them all is the beauty of a romance book where two women meet each other and fall in love in the sweetest way possible.

And I know I have said this countless times in other posts as well, but this time around I’m not joking.

If you want to read some of the most heartwarming romances ever, you’re going to love the books on this list.

Just like other posts on the blog, I made sure to include a huge variety of tropes, representation, and everything you can think of.

The sweet, the spicy, the slow-burn, the intense, and the down right incorrigible are on this list, so I promise you’re going to find something new to love!

1. Can’t Resist Her by Kiana Alexander

Cant resist her

Two women, Summer Graves and Aiko Holt, are back in their hometown of Austin, Texas.

Summer has returned to teach and fight against the demolition of her grandmother’s high school, while Aiko is part of the team working on the neighborhood’s redevelopment.

Their past romance resurfaces, and the book develops as these two very passionate women struggle to reconcile their different views on the neighbourhood’s future.

Now, their biggest task is to find a way to balance their beliefs with their emotions if they want to find love again.

There is something eternally wholesome about a small-town romance, and unlike others where only one character is back in town, in this book, our two characters are both returning to town.

And to make it even better, they have the most delicious chemistry even though they have a past together and they eventually find their happily ever after again.

I mention this because second-chance romance might be a sore spot for some, especially since the execution is usually touching, but I assure you this one was pretty good.

2. Read Between The Lines by Rachel Lacey

Read Between The Lines

Rosie Taft runs a bookstore she inherited from her mother and dreams of a romance like those in her favourite books.

She’s been chatting online with Brie, a lesbian romance author she admires, but soon Rosie finds out that her bookstore’s lease is being terminated by Jane Breslin’s family business.

And, when she also finds out that Jane, her new nemesis, is also Brie, their budding romance is put on hold.

Despite their conflict, they can’t ignore the chemistry between them and when their online identities are revealed, they’ll need to figure out if their love story can have a happy ending.

This might seem very cheap of me, but the best way to sell me on a book is if either of the characters is involved in the literary world or even slightly bookish.

In this book, both are female leads who are bookish, and aside from the fact that their chemistry was off the charts, I loved every single part of it.

I won’t say anything more because I’m trying my best not to drop spoilers, but I promise I’m going to enjoy this one.

3. I Hope That I Don’t Fall In Love With You by Harper Bliss

I hope that I dont fall in love

Dakota, disillusioned by dating men, tries dating women and soon connects with NYPD detective Jack.

Although Jack isn’t looking for a relationship, Dakota’s charm leads to an unexpected and intense affair.

And as their feelings deepen, Jack’s emotional barriers rise, but to get their HEA, these two will have to overcome their pasts.

This is frankly one of the most powerful lesbian romance books I have ever, ever read.

And I have no doubt that you’ll absolutely fall in love with Dakota and Jack if you give them a chance.

4. The 30-Day Engagement by Waverly Decker

The 30 day engagement

Emory Jordan needs a promotion and a date to her ex-fiancée’s Hollywood wedding.

More importantly, she needs a fake partner to impress her ex and pitch a business deal.

When a florist named Bliss accidentally injures Emory, Emory offers her the fake fiancée role.

And even though Bliss doesn’t trust the business world and the temporary nature of their arrangement, they grow closer as the wedding nears.

What starts as a pretend engagement turns into something more complicated and they soon start to question their feelings.

It is a truth generally acknowledged that both parties in a fake relationship will, one way or another, fall in love with each other.

And I’m telling you right now that I was rooting for Bliss and Emory from the very first second – This author has become a new favorite.

5. Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun

Here we go again

Logan Maletis and Rosemary Hale were childhood friends who turned into rivals after a falling out before high school.

Now in their thirties, they lead mundane lives as teachers in their small town.

When their former mentor, who is dying, asks them to drive him on a cross-country road trip, they must confront their past and each other.

Travelling in a colourful van, they journey from Washington to Maine and find new paths for their lives and even rekindle their old friendship.

Something has to be said about road trip romance books and how they are heartwarming in the best way possible.

In this book, Logan and Rosemary, who have become rivals even though they were friends as kids, learn more about each other while in that close proximity situation, and it was beautiful.

And I know I have said this about a few other books on this list, but this is genuinely the best lesbian romance book that delivers everything it was supposed to.

6. Change of Heart by Clare Lydon

Change of Heart

Erin Stewart hires Steph Mitchell, a stunning professional actor, as her fake date for her parents’ anniversary party.

What’s meant to be a temporary solution turns complicated because Erin falls for Steph even though they’re still trying to survive the family drama and tension.

Set in the Scottish Highlands, the story features lush scenery, intense attraction, and a first kiss that’s hard to forget, as Erin and Steph try to turn their fake relationship into something real.

In my very humble opinion, the only thing better than a sweet and swoon-worthy fake relationship book is one set in the Scottish Highlands, and every bit of this book was perfection.

And if you know this author, you already know she is super talented. Just like me, I promise you’ll be flying across the pages and hooked from start to finish.

Erin and Steph are literally what romantic dreams are made of, and there’s no way you won’t be squealing with joy when they get their HEA.

7. D’Vaughn and Kris Plan A Wedding by Chencia C. Higgins

D Vaughan and kris plan a wedding

Kris Zavala and D’Vaughn Miller enter a reality TV show where they must convince everyone they’re getting married in six weeks.

Kris sees it as a chance to boost her influencer career, while D’Vaughn uses it to come out to her mom.

But the more they fake their relationship, the deeper they fall for each other, but revealing the truth might destroy everything they’ve worked for.

If you’re even slightly involved in the bookish community on any social media platform, then you know that this book was an absolute riot when it was published.

And I know that, just like me, a lot of people’s default reaction to very popular books is to avoid them because they’re often overhyped. But in this case, that wasn’t the case.

If I’m being honest, I started with very low expectations, but by the time I was done reading, I actually felt like my heart grew twice its size.

8. Boss of Her by Anna Stone

Boss of her

Jade Fisher moves to Los Angeles to pursue a career and ends up at Club Velvet, where she has a passionate encounter with an older woman.

She’s surprised to discover that the woman is Simone Weiss, her new boss – Also, Simone is super attracted to her as well.

Having had their hearts broken in the past before, they both aren’t open to a relationship, but they find themselves growing closer.

In time, Jade’s submissive desires and Simone’s need to be in control drive them to confront their feelings and break down the walls around their hearts.

The most beautiful thing about Jade and Simone’s relationship in this sweet lesbian romance book is that it’s about so much more than their amazing chemistry.

The growth from both characters, both professionally and personally, was the most beautiful thing to witness, and I love that the author did not skimp on character development.

By the time I turned the last page, it genuinely felt like a happily ever after that was earned for both of them. This is one book that I would love to see turned into a movie.

9. Within My Reach by Amy Blythe

Within my reach

Anna Elliot’s summer vacation is derailed by babysitting and camping on a futon, but things change when Frida Wentworth, a successful photographer, returns to town.

Anna regrets letting Frida go, and it seems Frida hasn’t forgiven her either, but she doesn’t plan on leaving things as they are.

As Frida captivates Anna’s friends and stirs old feelings, this Sapphic retelling of Persuasion sees Anna try and try again to win Frida back.

Every single year, we get dozens and dozens of Jane Austen retellings, but it’s sad that there aren’t a lot of Sapphic-focused ones – This beautiful book fills that gap.

Persuasion is one of Jane Austen’s most popular books, and as far as I’m concerned, this retelling captures its very essence, especially the second chance romance trope.

There’s everything from moments where they were pushed together to a love triangle that nearly drove me crazy, but it all flowed throughout beautifully.

I recommend this book to anybody looking for a fresh take on a classic that will make you feel like you’re being wrapped in a big hug.

10. Set The Record Straight by Hannah Bonam-Young

Set the record straight

Clara’s new job as an assistant to her photography idol requires her to bring a girlfriend to an upcoming gallery opening after a mix-up leads her boss to believe she’s in a relationship.

Meanwhile, Evan, still reeling from a recent breakup, needs a date for the staff’s holiday party.

They then decide to fake a relationship to solve both their problems, but as Clara begins to fall for Evan and Evan confronts her long-standing feelings for Clara, their pretend romance becomes more complicated than they anticipated.

It’s a little funny how two characters always end up in a fake relationship and some think they won’t fall in love.

Evan and Clara had the most beautiful, amazing, and scorching chemistry I have ever read in a romance novel, and I’m probably going to recommend this book until the end of time.

Set the Record Straight is easily one of the really good lesbian romance books that every single person needs to read, and I just know you are going to absolutely enjoy it.

11. Written In The Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur

Written in the stars

Darcy Lowell, an uptight actuary, lies about a successful blind date to avoid her matchmaking brother.

To maintain the ruse, she convinces Elle Jones, a social media astrologer, to pretend to be her girlfriend until New Year’s Eve.

Elle, who finds Darcy too rigid for her free-spirited nature, agrees with conditions: Darcy must help her deal with her overbearing family over the holidays.

Soon, both women start developing genuine feelings they didn’t expect, but it’s now all a little too complicated.

We’ve seen it in a lot of books, but in this one, Elle and Darcy are literally the definition of two opposite characters somehow and surprisingly falling in love with each other.

From the very moment they met, I could tell that regardless of their differences, they also had a lot of similarities, and it was wonderful seeing them come together.

What I’ll tell you though is that you really need to read this lovely book if you’re in the mood for something with a sweet, wholesome romance that is absolutely worth the hours spent.

12. Perks Of Office by Liz Rain

Perks Of Office

Emma Ives has a massive crush on her new boss, Bridget O’Keefe, a high-powered politician, and even though she knows it’s a bad idea, she can’t help herself.

When a political scandal causes Bridget to look for comfort, Emma ends up spending a passionate night with her.

The more they spend time together, the more Emma thinks about how to convince Bridget that they could have a happy life together.

Liz Rain is a beautiful author, and this book reads like magic – You are going to end up being swept into the drama that is Emma’s life.

I am one of the readers who can’t wait for the one-night stand truth to be back in fashion, and this lovely book literally delivered it to my doorstep.

There’s always lots of drama, and this book definitely delivered on that, as well as the steam and, of course, the heartfelt romance between Emma and Bridget.

13. Cow Girl by Kirsty Eyre

Cow Girl

Billie leaves her career in London and her relationship with Joely Chevalier to return to her struggling family dairy farm in Yorkshire after her father falls ill.

Facing challenges like sexism, homophobia, and a dairy crisis, Billie must survive these obstacles to save the farm, the cows, and herself.

As an occasional editor, I’m often pressed about which genre to assign to books like this one, which don’t neatly fall into either side of the divide.

What you should know though is that if you’re looking for a sapphic romance to check out, this book is a must-read.

It’s very much Billie’s story, and I was thrilled to see her grow into herself, discover what truly matters to her, and find the courage to pursue love.

14. Meeting Millie by Clare Ashton

Meeting Millie

Charlotte is a geeky, upper-middle-class lesbian, and Millie is a charismatic, working-class straight woman and these two bonded while studying law.

Ten years later, Charlotte returns to Oxford, now working at a prestigious law firm and when Millie reappears in her life, old feelings resurface.

Something both painful and lovely about second-chance romance is that, while the characters may have separated, each has grown in their own way.

It’s a double-edged sword, no matter how you look at it and when Millie and Charlotte meet again, it’s both heart-wrenching and sweet because they must now find a way to fit into each other’s new lives.

A lot can change in 10 years, and for these two, they truly put in the work to find their happily ever after – Trust me when I say you’re going to enjoy every step of their journey.

15. Stars Collide by Rachel Lacey

Stars Collide

Eden Sands, a once-great pop star struggling with a failed marriage and a flopped album, is encouraged to collaborate with rising star Anna Moss to revive her career.

While Eden is hesitant, Anna, who has idolized Eden, sees the duet as a chance to prove her artistic depth.

As they rehearse, they find a deeper connection beyond their music and now they must decide if their relationship is just a fleeting moment or the start of a lasting romance worthy of a great love song.

What I like most about this book is how Eden and Anna take a situation that was originally frisky and a bit touchy and, instead, find out how much they actually have in common.

In this story, Eden is still in that phase where she feels a bit lost, which is quite realistic considering her career.

Watching Anna in her prime and receiving the type of treatment she craved from people makes Eden say and think some things she later regrets.

You’ll need to read the book to find out the details, but I can tell you that while romance is a big part of the story, it’s also about Anna and Eden gaining a deeper understanding of their strengths and weaknesses in a way that prepares them for whatever lies ahead.
